“DOMANI: The Art of Tomorrow” Exhibition 2021

We are delighted to announce that preparations are now underway for the 2021 edition of the “DOMANI: The Art of Tomorrow” exhibition, provisionally scheduled to begin in January.
2021 will mark the twenty-third of these regular exhibitions staged by The National Art Center, Tokyo at the beginning of each year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that took hold in early spring, and the ensuing major disruption to the arts, we envisage some significant hurdles in the lead-up to DOMANI 2021.
Yet it is precisely because of this that a group show by around ten artists will be assembled, just as in other years, as a symbol of the ongoing, steadfast commitment of the Agency for Cultural Affairs to supporting the practitioners who constitute the up-and-coming nucleus of Japanese contemporary art.
Focusing primarily on artists who have recently completed the Agency for Cultural Affairs Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists, DOMANI 2021 will also include artists who took part in the program more than a decade ago and have since enjoyed success on the frontline of the art scene, in an exhibition designed to showcase authentic, internationally outward-looking art emerging from Japan as it is right now.
Check this site from September onward for details on the theme for DOMANI 2021, names of participating artists, and other announcements.
