パイプライン、氷河、ゴールドラッシュなどの特定のモチーフを世界中で撮影し続け、ドキュメンタリーとアートの間を横断するように独自のイメージを提起している。近年は暗室で露光した印画紙を⽤いた⽴体作品や、多層に印画紙を編み込んだモザイク状の作品、自作を近代絵画と比較したインスタレーションなど、様々な表現で現代における写真の可能性を追い求め、高い評価を得ている。

Photographing pipelines, glaciers, gold rushes and other highly specific motifs at locations around the world, Ishizuka Gentaro presents unconventional images that straddle the boundary of documentary and art. Recent years have seen him seeking new possibilities in contemporary photography via a variety of expressive approaches, including sculptural works constructed from photographic paper exposed in the darkroom, mosaics made by weaving photographic paper in multiple layers, and installations comparing his own works to works of modern painting.
