2017年に韓国の仁川の自由公園でマッカーサーの銅像を見て以来、自身の制作の基礎となっている「彫刻」について省みるようになり、1930年代の東京美術学校彫刻科への留学生に関するリサーチと制作をスタート。パフォーマンスなどユニークな手法で、芸術と公共の関係性、近代的な彫刻概念を明らかにすることに取り組んでいる。

KURODA Daisuke

Seeing a bronze of General McArthur in Incheon's Freedom Park in 2017 prompted Kuroda Daisuke to reflect on the "sculpture" forming the foundation of his own practice, and embark on research and art-making around the topic of exchange students who studied sculpture at the Tokyo Fine Arts School (now part of the Tokyo University of the Arts) in the 1930s. Employing performance and other unique means, he sheds light on the connection between art and public, and on modern sculptural concepts.
